Nicolas Sarkozy, 53 ans, et l’ex-mannequin italien Carla Bruni , 40 ans, se sont mariés samedi matin lors d’une cérémonie discrète à Paris, mettant ainsi fin aux spéculations et aux rumeurs cinq mois après le divorce du président français.

Premier président français à s’être marié en cours de mandat depuis Paul Doumergue en 1931, premier aussi de la Vè République à épouser une star du show-biz, Nicolas Sarkozy, dont c’est le troisième mariage, a choisi la tradition et la plus grande discrétion pour officialiser cette union.

“Madame Carla Bruni-Tedeschi et Monsieur Nicolas Sarkozy annoncent qu’ils se sont mariés ce matin en présence de leurs familles dans la plus stricte intimité”, a simplement indiqué la présidence.

Le mariage a eu lieu au Palais présidentiel de l’Elysée et a été célébré par le maire du VIIIè arrondissement de Paris, François Lebel, qui a divulgué le premier l’information.

“J’ai marié deux électeurs du VIIIe qui habitent 55 rue du faubourg Saint Honoré”, soit l’adresse du Palais présidentiel, a déclaré M. Lebel sur la radio Europe 1.

La cérémonie, qui a duré une vingtaine de minutes, s’est déroulée dans un salon du premier étage en présence d’une vingtaine de personnes, “la famille proche et quelques amis”, a raconté le maire.

“La mariée était en blanc. Elle était ravissante, comme d’habitude” et le président était “en costume cravate comme il se doit dans n’importe quel mariage civil”.

M. Lebel a trouvé les nouveaux mariés “émus et amoureux”. “Il y a eu un échange d’alliances et la traditionnelle bise”, a-t-il dit.

M. Sarkozy avait divorcé en octobre dernier de Cécilia Ciganer-Albeniz, après onze ans de mariage.

Premier divorcé élu à l’Elysée (il avait déjà connu un divorce), Nicolas Sarkozy, qui se présente comme l’homme de la “rupture” en politique, est le premier chef d’Etat français à avoir divorcé pendant son mandat.

L’ancienne Première Dame de France, Bernadette Chirac, a adressé ses “voeux de bonheur” aux époux, espérant que le “nouveau ménage” ne rencontrerait “pas trop de difficultés” et se disant “sûre qu’ils seront très complémentaires”.

Nicolas Sarkozy et Carla Bruni affichaient leur relation depuis mi-décembre. Ils l’avaient rendue publique en se laissant photographier à l’occasion d’une visite au parc Eurodisney, près de Paris, enclenchant aussitôt les rumeurs sur l’imminence d’un mariage.

Lors d’une conférence de presse le 8 janvier, le président français avait confirmé qu’un mariage était dans l’air, assurant qu’entre l’ex-mannequin et lui, c’était “du sérieux”.

Interrogé sur la date de la cérémonie, il avait répondu aux journalistes : “Il y a de fortes chances que vous l’appreniez quand ce sera déjà fait”. Ce qui a été effectivement le cas.

Le président et sa compagne se sont rendus ensemble en Egypte et en Jordanie lors de brèves vacances très médiatisées. Mais le statut de simple “compagne” de Carla Bruni posait de nombreux problèmes protocolaires pour les voyages officiels.

Carla Bruni n’avait ainsi pas accompagné M. Sarkozy lors d’une récente visite officielle en Inde.

M. Sarkozy a d’autre part enregistré une nette baisse de popularité dans les derniers sondages, qui indiquent qu’une majorité de Français, outre leur déception dans le domaine du pouvoir d’achat, reprochent au président d’avoir trop affiché sa vie privée.

Selon une dernière enquête, seuls 41% des Français lui font confiance, son taux le plus bas depuis son élection en mai 2007.

Nicolas Sarkozy est père de trois garçons, Pierre et Jean, nés de son premier mariage, et Louis, 10 ans, issu de son union avec Cécilia.

Carla Bruni a un fils, Aurélien, aujourd’hui âgé de 6 ans. Fille d’un riche industriel italien, elle s’est reconvertie avec succès dans la chanson après avoir mené une carrière internationale de mannequin pendant les années 1990.

Pariisin kahdeksannen kaupunginosan pormestari François Lebel kertoi vihkineensä Sarkozyn ja Brunin aamupäivällä.

”Morsian oli valkoisessa asussa ja hän oli lumoava, kuten tavallista”, Lebel kuvaili radiokanava RTL:n haastattelussa. Hänen mukaansa yksinkertaisessa tilaisuudessa oli läsnä parikymmentä pariskunnan lähiystävää ja läheistä sukulaista.

Sarkozy erosi lokakuussa 2007 edellisestä puolisostaan Cécilia Sarkozysta. Hän julkisti suhteensa Bruniin joulukuussa, jolloin pari vieraili yhdessä Ranskan Disneylandissa valokuvaajien saattamana. Avioliitto Brunin kanssa on Sarkozylle kolmas.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his new wife, Carla Bruni, spent their wedding night in a former hunting lodge near the palace at Versailles, news reports said Sunday.

An Associated Press photographer spotted the newlyweds taking a stroll, hand-in-hand, in Versailles’s garden on Sunday, a day after their small, private wedding at the presidential Elysee Palace.

The two hosted a small wedding dinner Saturday night at La Lanterne, a former hunting lodge in Versailles, outside Paris, that has become a presidential residence, Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper said.

Sarkozy, 53, and Bruni, 40, were married Saturday, less than three months after they reportedly first met, and less than four months after his divorce from the previous first lady, Cecilia. The newlyweds issued a statement saying only that they tied the knot “in the presence of their families in the strictest privacy.”

The wedding was the third for Sarkozy, who has three sons. It was the first for Bruni, who has a young son from a previous relationship. A longtime top model, Bruni has reinvented herself as a singer in recent years.

Dans un encart publicitaire publié lundi dans Le Parisien et vantant ses opérations promotionnelles, Ryanair utilise une photo de Nicolas Sarkozy et de l’artiste italienne côte-à-côte et fait dire à Carla Bruni: “Avec Ryanair, toute ma famille va pouvoir venir assister à mon mariage”.

“C’est un usage abusif de l’image du président de la République, et le président de la République a donc donné instruction à son conseil pour que cette affaire reçoive les suites civiles nécessaires”, a déclaré le conseiller en communication de l’Elysée, Franck Louvrier.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has asked his lawyer to take legal action against low-cost airline Ryanair for using a photo of him and girlfriend Carla Bruni in an advertisement, a spokesman said Monday.

The Ryanair ad, published Monday in the French daily Le Parisien, shows the smiling couple with a comic book speech bubble coming from Bruni’s saying: “With Ryanair, all my family can come to my wedding.”

Sarkozy adviser Franck Louvrier said the French leader is requesting the immediate removal of the ad, although it was not immediately clear if he would also seek damages. He said Sarkozy’s office considers the ad “an improper use of the president’s image.”

Ryanair Holdings PLC, in a statement, said: “It was a humorous comment on a matter of great public interest in France. We apologize sincerely for any offense caused.”

The romance between the recently divorced president and the supermodel-turned-singer has captured headlines since they went public with their relationship in December.

Sarkozy, who turned 53 on Monday, has hinted that marriage is on the cards with Bruni, 40, though he has not revealed a date.

It is not the first time Ryanair, Europe’s biggest low-cost airline, has used politicians’ likenesses without permission. The company has used photos of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero in past ads.

The Irish budget airline last year reportedly settled a lawsuit filed by Sweden’s ex-Prime Minister Goran Persson out of court after using Persson’s photo picture without his consent.

Former supermodel Carla Bruni may have maintained a dignified silence about her relationship with the French president.

But in a startlingly frank interview conducted not long before she met Nicolas Sarkozy, Carla revealed her true feelings about the “miserable” and “negative” French people and the “unbearably polluted” Paris.

She even likened the 52-year-old President – who some reports claim she has secretly married – to the pop star Prince and Napoleon Bonaparte, saying they were short men with “attitude”.

She also claimed older men were “immature” in matters of the heart.

Despite living in France since she was five, Carla admitted she didn’t vote in the last Presidential election last May, and still considers herself Italian.

“I’m not French at all,” she said. “I don’t have a French passport I have an Italian passport.

“I like to be Italian. I like the Italian temperament and I like Italian food. French people are in a bad mood for some reason, and Italian people are in a good mood.”

Asked if the famously elegant Paris was a nicer city than London, she said: “I don’t think so. I’ve really been surprised at how beautiful London is.

“And in London you don’t feel the pollution because there are so many parks. In Paris, I live on the edge of the city because it’s the only place where you have green spaces.

“In the middle of Paris, it’s really hard, really unbearable.”

She added: “French people are always negative. They also are crazy about their own language, so every time there’s something that’s not in French, they get so mad about it.”

Carla’s love life before Sarkozy was complex – seven years ago she left French writer Jean-Paul Enthoven for his married son Raphael.

She has also had relationships with Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and Donald Trump.

But asked if she preferred older men, Carla, 40 – who has launched a new career as a pop singer – said: “They never get mature – only age.

“A man is the way he is at the age of 20, basically forever.

“They don’t seem to have an evolution. The older man is just older. He’s not stronger.

“They learn in life and from their job but in relationships, what they are they stay

She recalled how she met pop star Prince at a fashion show at the Ritz Hotel in Paris for Gianni Versace.

“Prince decided to leave without saying a word, so he stood up and his entire entourage left with him, leaving us alone.

“We’d only got as far as the starter. Prince is really small,” she said, “really cute, but really strange.”

And asked if short men had more attitude than taller men, she said: ‘Well there’s something in that –Napoleon, Sarkozy… ‘

Nicolas Sarkozy et Carla Bruni se seraient mariés jeudi à l’Elysée, écrit L’Est Républicain lundi sur son site internet, affirmation que n’a pas démentie l’Elysée, qui s’est borné à un “aucun commentaire”.

Le Premier ministre français François Fillon et la mère de Carla Bruni ont indiqué mardi ne pas être au courant d’un éventuel mariage.

Interrogé par l’AFP en marge de sa présentation des voeux pour savoir s’il avait été invité au mariage du président ou s’il était au courant d’une telle cérémonie, M. Fillon a répondu par deux fois “non”.

“Franchement, l’emploi du temps de jeudi me paraît peu compatible avec vos rumeurs”, a-t-il ajouté.

Dans une interview mardi à la radio publique italienne Rai, Marisa Bruni, la mère de Carla Bruni, dit ne pas savoir si sa fille a épousé Nicolas Sarkozy: “Je ne le sais pas. Si je le savais, je vous le dirais.” “Je la vois tous les jours”, a-t-elle ajouté: “Elle ne m’a rien dit.”

Jeudi, M. Sarkozy avait reçu à l’Elysée le chef de gouvernement espagnol José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero pour un sommet franco-espagnol, avant de présider une cérémonie de voeux aux militaires et aux anciens combattants.

M. Sarkozy et Carla Bruni auraient prévu de se rendre prochainement près de Vérone (nord de l’Italie), où des chambres d’hotel auraient été réservées au nom de l’ex-mannequin, affirme lundi l’agence italienne Ansa, sans citer de sources.

Ils auraient réservé plusieurs chambres dans un hôtel de charme de la vallée vinicole du Valpolicella, à San Vito di Negrar, affirme l’agence. Ansa ne cite pas le nom de l’établissement et affirme baser son information sur des “indiscrétions”.

Une rumeur sur la venue prochaine du couple dans la ville de Roméo et Juliette a agité Vérone lundi, selon l’agence italienne.

Plus tôt lundi, l’Elysée avait déclaré n’avoir “aucun commentaire” à faire sur l’information concernant un éventuel mariage du couple.

Le porte-parole de l’Elysée David Martinon ainsi que Franck Louvrier, chef du service de presse de la présidence, se sont contentés de déclarer à l’AFP qu’ils n’avaient “aucun commentaire” à faire, comme à l’automne dernier, au plus fort des rumeurs sur un divorce du président Sarkozy d’avec Cécilia.

M. Louvrier a renvoyé aux déclarations du chef de l’Etat mardi au cours de sa conférence de presse.

“Avec Carla, nous avons décidé de ne pas mentir”, avait dit M. Sarkozy, qui s’affiche depuis mi-décembre avec la chanteuse et ex-top model. Concernant un éventuel mariage, le président avait ajouté “avec Carla, c’est du sérieux”, tout en assurant qu’il “y a de fortes chances pour que vous l’appreniez quand ce sera déjà fait”.

Les rumeurs d’un mariage civil, persistantes depuis lors, ont fait rage jeudi et vendredi. Jeudi, de nombreux médias s’étaient ainsi rués à la mairie du XVIème arrondissement de Paris, suite à des bruits de mariage imminent, voire en cours.

Le journaliste de l’Est Républicain auteur de l’article, Laïd Sammari, qui cite “une source proche d’un témoin ayant assisté à leur union”, a déclaré à l’AFP: “à partir du moment où l’on décide de publier, c’est que nous avons de bonnes raisons de le faire. Mais c’est au conditionnel car je n’étais pas personnellement à la cérémonie”.

M. Sarkozy, qui effectue depuis dimanche une tournée dans le Golfe, sans Carla Bruni, ne portait pas d’alliance lundi, a constaté l’AFP.

Ce serait le troisième mariage du président, qui a été le premier divorcé élu à l’Elysée. Il a eu deux enfants de son premier mariage et un fils avec son ex-épouse Cécilia Ciganer-Albeniz.

Carla Bruni, issue d’une grande famille d’industriels italiens, a un fils avec le philosophe Raphaël Enthoven.

Le code civil autorise, à la demande du procureur de la République, la célébration d’un mariage hors mairie “en cas d’empêchement grave”. Le procureur peut également, “pour des causes graves”, dispenser de la publication des bans ou du délai de 10 jours prévu pour leur affichage en mairie.

M. Sarkozy, 52 ans, a divorcé en octobre dernier, après 11 années de mariage avec Cécilia. Le couple s’était séparé une première fois en 2005 avant de se réconcilier. Mais les absences de Cécilia durant la campagne et après l’élection présidentielle avaient relancé les spéculations sur leur union.

Après leur sortie à EuroDisney, le président et Carla Bruni, 40 ans, ont passé les fêtes de fin d’année en Egypte, puis un week-end début janvier en Jordanie, deux sorties très médiatisées qui ont fait les “unes” de la presse.

Le voyage en Egypte s’était fait à bord d’un avion de l’homme d’affaires Vincent Bolloré, ami de M. Sarkozy, relançant les critiques de l’opposition contre le “mélange des genres” et la “pipolisation” de la politique.

La socialiste Ségolène Royal, ancienne adversaire de M. Sarkozy à la présidentielle, s’est livrée lundi à une violente charge, l’accusant de “faire des événements de la vie privée des événements publics, comme Louis XIV: vous avez le petit matin du roi, le déjeuner du roi, le coucher du roi, les maîtresses du roi”.

Lehti lainasi jutussaan seremoniaan osallistunutta ihmistä lähellä olevaa lähdettä. Lähteen mukaan viime torstaina pidetty vihkimistilaisuus oli hyvin pieni ja hyvin yksityinen.

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon on Tuesday poured cold water over a report that President Nicolas Sarkozy had married former Italian supermodel Carla bruni at a private ceremony last week.

L’Est Republicain newspaper quoted an unnamed “source close to a witness who attended the ceremony” as saying that the wedding was a “small, very private” affair held at the Elysee palace on Thursday.

But the prime minister said Sarkozy’s workload on Thursday would not have allowed time for the president to attend his wedding.

Sarkozy hosted a Franco-Spanish summit and later met with military personnel and war veterans to offer New Year’s wishes.

“Frankly, it seems to me that the schedule on Thursday doesn’t square with your rumours,” said Fillon. He said he knew nothing about the reported ceremony.

Sarkozy, 52, told a news conference last week that his relationship with 40-year-old Bruni was “serious” and suggested he planned to marry the former supermodel and pop singer.

In an interview to Italian public radio, Bruni’s mother Marisa also cast doubt about the report.

“I have no information, nor does her sister who called me yesterday and said she had lunch with (Carla),” said Marisa Bruni.

“Everything’s possible, but we are a very close family, and that would be very strange,” not to inform us, she added.

In October, Sarkozy became the first French president to divorce while in office when he ended his stormy 11-year marriage to his second wife Cecilia Ciganer-Albaniz.

Sarkozy met Bruni in November and the couple have since travelled to Egypt and Jordan on vacation together.

Recently divorced President Nicolas Sarkozy will marry his former supermodel girlfriend next month, a French newspaper reported Sunday.

The weekly Le Journal Du Dimanche, citing unidentified sources, said Sarkozy gave Carla Bruni a heart-shaped diamond engagement ring in December and that the pair would wed on Feb. 8 or 9.

The presidential palace declined to comment on the report.

Sarkozy, who divorced his wife Cecilia in October, has flaunted his relationship with Bruni on recent holidays in Egypt and Jordan, drawing criticism that he is being too loose with the presidential image.

Political analyst Dominique Moisi said that a Sarkozy proposal to Bruni could be an effort to head off any future controversies, and its speed would fit with his personality as a busy man in a hurry.

“Apparently, he’s going to marry her, so the problem will be behind him,” Moisi said. “He will multiply the opportunities to travel with her, (and) to say to the French, ‘You see, I must remarry … You need a first lady.’”

Sarkozy, a reform-minded conservative with a pro-American slant, has sought to shake-up France since his May election by trimming bureaucracy and revving up a stalled economy.

But polls suggest the French are less eager to part with a tradition in which their presidents have kept quiet about their private lives and discretion about romantic matters has been the norm.

“The French reproach Nicolas Sarkozy for making his private life too visible — that he goes a bit too far,” said Francois Miquet-Marty, head of political studies at polling group LH2 Opinion. “But people are able to separate his professional duties from his private life. It does not seem to affect their overall view about him.”

Abroad, Sarkozy’s relationship with Bruni, a one-time star of the catwalks who is now a singer, has drawn both criticism and confusion.

In India, which Sarkozy is reportedly expected to visit in coming weeks, recent news reports say diplomatic officials have been grappling with how to handle protocol if Bruni accompanies him.

Citing unidentified sources at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Express newspaper reported that Bruni could not receive a reception on a par with that of a president’s spouse.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna declined to comment.

The relationship became public in mid-December when Sarkozy and Bruni visited a Paris area theme park together, with some photographers in tow.

After the pair turned up in Egypt on Christmas Day, three Egyptian lawmakers said in parliament that it was improper under Islamic law and traditions that the unmarried couple share a hotel room. Many Egyptians tuned in to coverage of the visit, and some commentators were critical.

On Saturday, Sarkozy was photographed in Petra Jordan, alongside Bruni while holding a young boy whom the weekly newspaper identified as her son on his shoulders.

Sarkozy had been married to Cecilia for 11 years. Their marital problems became well known in May 2005 when she appeared in public at the side of event organizer Richard Attias.

A marriage to Bruni would be Sarkozy’s third. He divorced his first wife, Marie, in the late 80s after he meeting and befriending Cecilia.

Bruni, an Italian-born French citizen, has dated famous men including Mick Jagger and Donald Trump.
